During this summer we will be running pick-up volleyball games and an organized recreational adult basketball league on Sunday afternoons. These programs will run June-August. The volleyball games will be free to attend and we will be creating a contact list to help organize games. The basketball league will be 5v5 with rosters limited to 10 people per team. Games will be two 25 minute running halves, with a 5 minute halftime. Referees will be provided. Each team will play a "season" of games with the top 4 teams making the playoffs. Cost for the league is still being discussed and will be determined soon. T-shirts for each participant will be provided and a trophy and prizes will be awarded to the winning team. Stay tuned for details.

Holiday Decoration Contest
|
This winter, the Cumru Park and Recreation Department will be running a Holiday Decoration Contest. Prizes will be awarded for the top three homes in Cumru. The homes and home owners will be featured on our website and in the next newsletter. To participate all you need to do is fill out the program registration form available at the top of this page. After that, someone from our department will be around to take a few photographs and the Park and Recreation Board will complete the judging during the month of December. We will notify our winners once the judging is finished and will be in touch to gather the necessary information to complete our write-up. So, if you’re taking the time to decorate your house this year, be sure to let us know. You may just have the best decorated home in Cumru!

Summer Playground
| |
Every summer the Township of Cumru runs a 6-8 week daytime (9am-1pm) playground program for children ages 5-13. Each day is filled with games, sports, activities, and crafts. Every Wednesday is popsicle day and Friday is field trip day! This past summer our group of 20 leaders ran daytime playground programs at Montrose Manor and the Warren Recreation Center, as well as an evening (6:30pm-8:30pm) program at the Gouglersville Fire Company. We had over 160 children attend our programs this year, and were able to provide some great trips to places like the Reading Public Museum and Planetarium, Ozzy's, and the French Creek State park Swimming Pool to name a few. This year we also ended the year in a big way with our Family Carnival on August 6th, we had food, games, moon bounces, and over 200 people in attendance. Overall Playground 2010 was a great success. Next years program is already being planned, and details will be available in the future.
Playground 2011 will run June 27th-August 5th.

Punt, Pass, and Kick
| |
On October 2nd, 2010 we hosted our 1st Annual PPK Competition. 18 Children ages 6-15 participated in punting, passing, and kick a football as far as they could. Their total distance was added up and winners were awarded trophies. All of the score were submitted to the NFL PPK program, that helps bring the best PPK competitors together at larger regional and national events. Everyone in attendance had a great time with the competiton, food, and drinks. We hope to make this a staple event for our fall program.
This event will be held on a Saturday September 17th 2011 at 11:00am this year to better accommodate the NFL PPK program.
